Ethiopia harnessing mineral resources to drive industrial growth & shared prosperity – Deputy PM
Addis Ababa, April 29, 2026 (FMC) – Ethiopia is moving from potential to progress by harnessing its vast mineral resources to drive economic growth and shared prosperity, Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh said in a social media post.
The Deputy PM is visiting development activities in Benishangul Gumuz regional state this week.
He noted that the country’s ongoing transformation is being reflected in the development of its mineral sector, where local resources are increasingly being processed into value-added products that meet industrial standards.
In his post, the Deputy Prime Minister referenced the Orlament (3M) Marble and Terrazzo Manufacturing Factory in the Benishangul-Gumuz Region, where multi-colored granite is being transformed into high-quality marble and terrazzo products.
He emphasized that such initiatives demonstrate how local resources are being used to create jobs, satisfy domestic demand, and help conserve foreign exchange through import substitution.
According to him, these outcomes are the result of a deliberate policy direction aimed at creating a conducive environment for private sector investment, encouraging enterprise, and translating development visions into tangible results.
Benishangul-Gumuz Region, which is endowed with significant mineral resources including gold and granite, continues to be identified as a key area for resource-based industrial expansion, with efforts ongoing to ensure the responsible and sustainable development of its natural assets for long-term national benefit.
