ENDF Chief of Staff Reaffirms Modern Military Capability in Safeguarding Ethiopia’s Sovereignty and National Security

Addis Ababa, June 6, 2026 (FMC) — Chief of Staff of the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF), Field Marshal Berhanu Jula, said the national army is operating with a modern organizational structure and enhanced capability to safeguard Ethiopia’s sovereignty and national honor.

Field Marshal Berhanu made the remarks today during the graduation ceremony of the 27th round of the Endurance Course held at the Hurso Officer Cadet Training School.

Speaking at the event, the ENDF Chief of Staff said Ethiopia has a long history of preserving its sovereignty and dignity through the sacrifices of its people, adding that the defense force continues to uphold this legacy through strengthened operational readiness and modern military capability.

He stated that the ENDF is taking action against armed groups and individuals he described as operating in coordination with foreign adversaries to undermine national peace and security.

Field Marshal Berhanu urged the newly graduated officer cadets to remain firmly committed to defending Ethiopia’s sovereignty and national interests, calling on them to combine their military training with practical experience in order to further strengthen the effectiveness of the defense force.

Commander of the Hurso Officer Cadet Training School, Colonel Keder Ancho, said the institution has continued its long-standing role in producing officers dedicated to safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and national honor.

He noted that the graduates completed rigorous training covering physical fitness, discipline, psychological readiness and professional military knowledge, preparing them to carry out their duties effectively under challenging conditions.

On behalf of the graduating class, the new officers pledged to uphold their responsibilities in protecting the sovereignty, territorial integrity and security of the country and its citizens.

During the ceremony, General Yimer Mekonnen, Head of the General Department of Education and Training at the Ministry of Defense, presented an award to the officer cadet who achieved the highest performance during the training program.
