Ethiopia and African Partners Explore Stronger Cooperation in Trade, Technology and Beyond

Addis Ababa, July 29, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia’s Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos held bilateral discussions with his counterparts from Zimbabwe and Benin, exploring ways to further strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including trade, technology and broader diplomatic engagement.

The meetings were held yesterday on the sidelines of the 49th Ordinary Session of the African Union Executive Council underway in Addis Ababa.

During talks with Zimbabwe’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Amon Murwira, the two sides reaffirmed the longstanding and friendly relations between Ethiopia and Zimbabwe, highlighting shared positions on African Union affairs, Pan-Africanism and other international issues of common interest.

The ministers emphasized the importance of deepening bilateral cooperation and agreed to convene a Joint Ministerial Commission to facilitate the implementation of existing agreements and expand collaboration across various sectors.

Gedion also met with Benin’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Corinne Amori, with discussions focusing on practical measures to enhance bilateral relations and broaden areas of cooperation.

The two sides reviewed mechanisms to advance agreements previously signed between Ethiopia and Benin, while Minister Amori expressed Benin’s interest in learning from Ethiopia’s growing experience in artificial intelligence and related technological development.

The engagements underscore Ethiopia’s continued efforts to strengthen partnerships with African countries and advance shared continental priorities through enhanced cooperation.
