Ethiopia and Azerbaijan Vow to Expand Cooperation for Shared Development

Addis Ababa, July 29, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia and Azerbaijan have reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation across various sectors for mutual development and prosperity, House of People’s Representatives Speaker Tagesse Chafo said.

Speaker Tagesse made the remarks during talks with Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis (Parliament) Sahiba Gafarova and her delegation, who are in Ethiopia for an official visit.

Briefing the Azerbaijani delegation on the overall activities of Ethiopia’s House of People’s Representatives, Tagesse said the visit would contribute to further consolidating the historical and diplomatic relations between the two countries.

He highlighted Ethiopia’s ongoing efforts to modernize working systems, improve service delivery and create a more favorable environment for investment through policies designed to support investors.

Tagesse noted that Ethiopia has significant investment potential in sectors including agriculture, mining and manufacturing, and highlighted the successful completion of the country’s national elections and efforts to resolve differences through dialogue under an independent national dialogue process.

He reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to working with Azerbaijan in various fields to advance shared prosperity.

For her part, Sahiba Gafarova said visits by senior Ethiopian officials to Azerbaijan at different times have played an important role in elevating the relations between the two countries.

She expressed Azerbaijan’s interest in further strengthening cooperation with Ethiopia in areas including education, capacity building and agriculture.

Gafarova also emphasized the importance of strengthening people-to-people relations, noting that closer ties between the peoples of the two countries would further consolidate their friendship and bilateral cooperation.
