At the center of this effort is the 5 Million Ethiopian Coders Initiative, a nationwide digital skills development program designed to train Ethiopian youth in coding, programming and other essential technology fields, creating a foundation for innovation, entrepreneurship and participation in the global digital economy.

Graduates can use their skills to work remotely for international technology companies, establish digital businesses and contribute to technology-based services that generate income and foreign currency earnings for the country.

Since its launch, the initiative has recorded significant progress. More than 3.6 million citizens have successfully completed the training and obtained internationally recognized certificates, marking a major milestone in Ethiopia’s digital skills development journey.
