Addis Ababa, June 15, 2026 (FMC) — The Office of the Prime Minister has said that the Bishoftu International Airport mega project is taking shape through round-the-clock construction efforts, as Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed toured the construction progress of the project today.
The project, currently under construction about 40 kilometres from Addis Ababa at an elevation of 1,910 metres above sea level, is designed to accommodate up to 110 million passengers annually at full master plan capacity, 4.4 times the capacity of the existing Bole International Airport.
According to the PMO, the landmark project is expected to strengthen connectivity across Africa and beyond through Ethiopian Airlines, positioning Ethiopia among the world’s leading aviation hubs.
