Addis Ababa, September 11, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia and the New Development Bank (NDB), the multilateral development bank established by BRICS, have explored ways to deepen cooperation in support of the country’s development priorities and ongoing economic transformation.
The discussions took place on the sidelines of the BRICS Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting, where National Bank of Ethiopia Governor Eyob Tekalign met with NDB President Dilma Rousseff.
The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss shared priorities and potential areas for stronger collaboration between Ethiopia and the NDB, particularly in advancing Ethiopia’s national development agenda and supporting its broader economic transformation.
The engagement comes as Ethiopia moves closer to formalizing its membership in the NDB. The Council of Ministers recently approved the country’s membership, with the matter now referred to Parliament for final ratification.
Governor Eyob is in New Delhi as part of Ethiopia’s high-level delegation led by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, which is participating in the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit.
The summit is being held on September 12–13 under India’s 2026 chairship theme, “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability,” bringing BRICS leaders together to advance cooperation on global governance, economic development, trade, technology and other shared priorities.
