Addis Ababa, July 29, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopian Airlines Group generated USD 9.1 billion in revenue during the 2025/2026 fiscal year, while transporting 20.7 million passengers, underscoring another year of growth despite operational disruptions in parts of its international network.
Presenting the airline’s annual performance, Ethiopian Airlines Group Chief Executive Officer Mesfin Tasew said passenger traffic increased by 8 percent compared with the previous fiscal year.
Passenger kilometers also rose by 10 percent year-on-year, enabling the airline to achieve 99 percent of its planned target, while cargo capacity expanded by 8 percent.
During the fiscal year, Ethiopian Airlines transported 897,000 tons of cargo, representing a 16 percent increase from the previous year and reinforcing the continued growth of its cargo operations.
The airline further expanded its global network by launching flights to four new international destinations, bringing the total number of international destinations it serves to 150, alongside 25 domestic destinations.
To support its operational growth, Ethiopian Airlines added nine aircraft to its fleet and acquired eight pilot training aircraft to strengthen its aviation training capacity.
Mesfin said the airline’s financial performance was affected by flight cancellations resulting from conflicts in the Gulf region, the suspension of services to certain destinations due to U.S. travel restrictions, and the cancellation of flights to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Despite these challenges, he said, the airline maintained strong operational performance throughout the fiscal year, with the first nine months delivering particularly strong results that significantly supported its overall performance.
The airline also continued expanding infrastructure at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, including work on the domestic terminal, passenger lounges, cargo terminal and data center, while carrying out airport beautification projects.
According to the CEO, construction of the new Bishoftu Airport is progressing as planned and is expected to be completed by January next year. He added that the relocation of residents affected by the project has already been finalized, as reported by ENA.
Mesfin also noted that construction of new domestic airports is advancing and is expected to be completed next year, further strengthening Ethiopia’s aviation infrastructure.
