Addis Ababa, September 15, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopian specialty coffee has reached an unprecedented price on the international market, with one kilogram of Guji coffee selling for $2,376—the highest price recorded in Ethiopia’s coffee history, according to the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority.
The record-setting coffee was sold under the “Faysel Abdosh Signature” label by Faysel Abdosh, owner of Tasty Coffee, through an online auction targeting the international specialty coffee market.
The auction was conducted through M-Cultivo, a prominent online specialty coffee auction platform based in the United Kingdom and the United States.
The $2,376-per-kilogram sale, equivalent to nearly 380,000 birr at the current exchange rate, further demonstrates the quality and international market demand for Ethiopian specialty coffee, while opening additional opportunities to expand premium market destinations, the Authority said.
The landmark sale also carries a significant social-development dimension. Its full proceeds will be channeled through the Tasty Foundation toward the construction of a modern health center in Denbi Udo Kebele, Shakiso Woreda, in Guji Zone.
The initiative is also intended as a contribution to and gesture of appreciation for the farmers and communities in Guji whose work has helped preserve and sustain the quality of the coffee.
