Addis Ababa, July 27, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia’s Ministry of Revenues has collected 1.518 trillion Birr in the 2025/26 fiscal year, exceeding its revised revenue target and marking a 68.69 percent increase compared with the previous fiscal year.
The figure was disclosed during the annual performance review of the Ministry of Revenues and the Ethiopian Customs Commission, where Revenue Minister Aynalem Nigusse highlighted measures taken to strengthen domestic revenue mobilization.
She said the ministry implemented various activities aimed at expanding the tax base, improving tax administration and policy frameworks, and introducing technology-based service delivery systems to enhance revenue collection capacity.
The minister noted that the initial revenue target for the fiscal year was set at 1.28 trillion Birr. Following improved performance during the first half of the year, the target was revised upward to 1.5 trillion Birr.
Through the implementation of planned activities, the ministry collected 1.518 trillion Birr, achieving 101.24 percent of the revised target.
The revenue was generated from domestic taxation, foreign trade activities, customs duties, and other tax-related sources, according to the ministry.
The performance represents a 68.69 percent growth compared with the 2024/25 fiscal year, reflecting ongoing efforts to expand Ethiopia’s domestic revenue base and strengthen government financing capacity.
