Addis Ababa, April 14, 2026 (FMC) – Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai laid a wreath at the Adwa Victory Memorial in Addis Ababa as part of his official visit to Ethiopia.
The President was received at the memorial site by Addis Ababa City Administration Mayor Adanech Abiebie, where he paid tribute at the Adwa Heroes Memorial and toured the Adwa Victory Memorial Museum.
The museum commemorates the Battle of Adwa, a historic Ethiopian victory widely associated with the country’s resistance to Italian colonial invasion.
In a message shared on social media, the Mayor highlighted the memorial as a symbol of Ethiopia’s historical victory and broader significance in the continent’s anti-colonial history and the freedom struggle of African peoples.
She further noted that Ethiopia and Liberia are both associated with Africa’s historical narratives of sovereignty and resistance to colonial domination, and extended wishes for the President’s continued successful stay in Addis Ababa, described as the African capital.
President Boakai’s visit to the memorial formed part of his wider official engagements in Ethiopia, including bilateral talks with Ethiopian leaders and the signing of cooperation agreements aimed at strengthening Ethiopia–Liberia relations.
