Ethiopia Calls for Climate Action to Move From Commitments to Implementation Ahead of COP31

Addis Ababa, September 23, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia has called for a stronger shift from climate commitments to concrete implementation, emphasizing international cooperation and increased support for developing countries ahead of COP31.

Representing Ethiopia as the incoming COP32 Presidency, Ambassador Nebiyu Tedla made the call at the symposium “Partners in Green Transition: Advancing Ambition, Action and Partnerships for COP31,” organized by the Chintan Research Foundation in partnership with the Australian High Commission in New Delhi.

Ambassador Nebiyu underscored the central role of climate finance in translating climate commitments into meaningful action, calling for measures to lower the cost of capital, expand concessional financing and ensure that climate finance reaches countries most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.

He also emphasized the need for stronger international cooperation to advance an inclusive and action-oriented green transition.
