Ethiopia, France Discuss Expanded Cooperation on Debt, Investment and Development Finance

Addis Ababa, October 13, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia and France have explored ways to expand their longstanding economic partnership, with development financing, debt sustainability, investment and institutional capacity building among the key areas identified for further cooperation.

The discussions took place during a bilateral meeting between an Ethiopian delegation led by National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) Governor Dr. Eyob Tekalign and Thomas Revial, Assistant Secretary at the French Treasury, on the sidelines of the 2026 IMF–World Bank Group Annual Meetings in Bangkok, Thailand.

The two sides reviewed progress in Ethiopia’s ongoing macroeconomic reform agenda and France’s continued engagement in supporting the country’s development priorities, reflecting the economic ties built between the two countries over the years.

Their discussions also examined opportunities to strengthen cooperation in development finance, promote debt sustainability, encourage investment and build institutional capacity.

The engagement comes as Ethiopia advances its macroeconomic reform agenda and seeks to reinforce partnerships that can support economic stability and sustainable growth. Cooperation with France across these areas remains an important part of the broader economic dialogue between the two countries.
