Ethiopia to deliver world-class hosting standards in COP32 – Foreign Minister
Addis Ababa, April 18, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia aims to demonstrate and strengthen its capacity to host global events through preparations for the 32nd Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP32), Minister of Foreign Affairs and President of the COP32 National Steering Committee Gideon Timothewos (PhD) said.
The Minister made the remarks while briefing the COP32 National Steering Committee on the strategic vision of the conference and the preparatory work undertaken so far. The briefing took place during a meeting convened by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on Friday.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed convened the COP32 National Steering Committee to review progress, identify gaps, and ensure alignment with the national vision. During the meeting, task forces presented updates on their respective areas, with emphasis placed on coordinated implementation and strengthening citizen engagement as Ethiopia prepares to host COP32 in 2027.
In his briefing, Mr. Gideon outlined preparations made to negotiate the agendas of the conference and achieve outcomes that are beneficial and meaningful for Ethiopia.
He stated that Ethiopia aims to demonstrate its capacity to host global events by providing world-class services in hospitality, logistics, and operations.
The Minister further noted that the conference is expected to increase investment inflows into Ethiopia and enhance tourist flows related to climate change and renewable energy.
He also explained that demonstrating Ethiopia’s international influence, as well as strengthening the capacity and experience of national experts, institutions, and other stakeholders participating in the event, are expected outcomes of the conference.
