Ethiopia to Showcase Green Energy and Digital Transformation at COP32 – Ethio Telecom CEO

Addis Ababa, April 18, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia will showcase its green energy utilization and digital transformation progress at the 32nd Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP32) when the nation hosts the global climate event in 2027, Ethio Telecom Chief Executive Officer Frehiwot Tamiru said.

During a meeting of the COP32 National Steering Committee convened by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to review progress, identify gaps, and ensure alignment with the national vision, Frehiwot Tamiru briefed members on the progress and focus areas of the Digital, ICT and Utilities Task Force as part of Ethiopia’s ongoing preparations to host the global climate conference.

In her briefing, the CEO noted that the Task Force will play a central enabling role in ensuring the successful conduct of the conference by delivering strong, reliable, resilient, and secure infrastructure to support digital services, including under challenging conditions.

She stated that COP32 will serve as a key platform to showcase Ethiopia’s use of green energy, its advanced technologies, as well as the progress and outcomes of the country’s digital transformation.

The CEO further indicated that the conference will provide an opportunity to promote Ethiopia’s efforts to combat climate change to the global community.

According to her, a comprehensive digital system will be established to manage telecom services, power supply, water and sanitation services, as well as overall conference operations.

She added that all infrastructure and digital services supporting the conference will be equipped with artificial intelligence capabilities and comprehensive cybersecurity systems.

Ethiopia’s selection to host COP32 marks a significant opportunity to highlight the country’s progress in green energy development, digital transformation, and climate action on a global stage.
