Ethiopia Welcomes UAE Candidate Lana Nusseibeh for UN Secretary-General Post

Addis Ababa, October 29, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia has welcomed the candidacy of Lana Nusseibeh, nominated by the United Arab Emirates for the position of United Nations Secretary-General, reaffirming the importance it attaches to the leadership of the world body.

In a statement, Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the country, as a founding member of the United Nations, attaches great importance to the office of the Secretary-General.

The Ministry cited Nusseibeh’s distinguished service, commitment to multilateralism and extensive diplomatic experience, saying these qualities further strengthen an already impressive field of women candidates for the position.
