Addis Ababa, October 12, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia and the World Bank have reviewed their longstanding development partnership and outlined priorities for the next phase of cooperation, with a focus on macroeconomic stability, private-sector growth, agricultural modernization and sustainable infrastructure.
The Ethiopian delegation, led by National Bank of Ethiopia Governor Eyob Tekalign, held discussions in Bangkok with Dr. Ndiamé Diop, World Bank Vice President for Eastern and Southern Africa, on the sidelines of the 2026 IMF–World Bank Group Annual Meetings.
The discussions focused on the new Country Partnership Framework, which will guide cooperation between Ethiopia and the World Bank in addressing the country’s development priorities.
Key areas identified include sustaining macroeconomic stability, strengthening a competitive private sector, expanding exports and modernizing agriculture through climate-smart value chains.
The two sides also discussed sustainable infrastructure development, regional energy integration, human development and social protection as priority areas for cooperation.
The Ethiopian delegation further sought continued technical assistance from the World Bank for preparations to host COP32, alongside faster implementation of projects across the existing development portfolio.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to close cooperation aimed at translating the partnership into tangible development outcomes for the Ethiopian people.
The discussions took place as the Annual Meetings bring together governments, international financial institutions and development partners to examine economic challenges, mobilize financing and advance development priorities.
