Ethiopia’s Day of Resilience Brings Its Security, Intelligence and Technology Capabilities Into Focus

Addis Ababa, September 8, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia is observing Pagume 3 as the Day of Resilience, spotlighting the contributions of the institutions working across defense, policing, intelligence, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence to protect the country and advance its national interests.

The observance is being held across the country as part of the Pagume program, with the Ethiopian National Defense Force, National Intelligence and Security Service, Ethiopian Federal Police, Information Network Security Administration and Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute taking part in activities highlighting their respective contributions.

Deputy Commissioner General and Commander of the Criminal Investigation and Prevention Directorate of the Ethiopian Federal Police, Major General Melaku Fanta, said preparations had been made to commemorate the day and showcase the contributions of the country’s security and defense institutions.

He highlighted the Ethiopian National Defense Force’s efforts to equip itself with modern technologies and its achievements in confronting internal and external challenges with resilience. He also emphasized the force’s role in creating the conditions necessary to safeguard the interests of the country and its people.

The Ethiopian Federal Police, he said, continues to discharge its responsibility as a guardian of peace, while registering significant results in combating transnational crimes and illicit trade.

The observance also highlights Ethiopia’s expanding focus on security in the digital domain. The Information Network Security Administration is being recognized for its efforts to effectively counter cyberattacks targeting the country and strengthen national protection in an increasingly digital environment.

The National Intelligence and Security Service is likewise being recognized for its role in collecting and analyzing information and making relevant intelligence available to stakeholders, contributing to the protection of Ethiopia’s national interests.

Meanwhile, the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute is highlighting its work in building an artificial intelligence ecosystem and supporting efforts to accelerate the country’s digital transformation.

The Day of Resilience thus brings together different dimensions of national capability—from defense and law enforcement to intelligence, cybersecurity and emerging technologies—under an observance dedicated to recognizing the institutions contributing to Ethiopia’s security and resilience.
