Ethiopia’s Future Rests on a Youth Rising to Drive Change, Defend Sovereignty and Build Prosperity: PM Abiy

Addis Ababa, August 12, 2026 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said Ethiopia’s future depends on the active participation of its youth, describing young Ethiopians as the country’s greatest opportunity to drive change, defend national sovereignty and help build a prosperous nation.

In a social media post today, the Prime Minister said Ethiopia’s young people are turning the page on division, conflict and poverty and writing a new chapter in the country’s history with courage, unity and purpose.

He emphasized that youth are not only beneficiaries of Ethiopia’s future but key actors in shaping it, with a vital role in advancing national transformation, safeguarding sovereignty and contributing to the country’s prosperity.

Prime Minister Abiy reaffirmed the Medemer Government’s commitment to empowering young Ethiopians and strengthening their role as leaders in the country’s development and future.

He called on Ethiopians to move forward together with love, unity and a shared national vision.
