Ethiopia’s Special Operations Command Strengthens Its Edge in Complex Combat Operations: Commander
Addis Ababa, August 22, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia’s Special Operations Command is strengthening the readiness and capabilities of its commando forces through rigorous, modern military training, Commander of the Special Operations Command Lieutenant General Shuma Abdeta said.
He made the remarks as the Blate Special Operations Command Training Center graduated the 45th cohort of trainees from the Tsenat Course for commandos.
Lieutenant General Shuma said the Special Operations Command has consistently demonstrated its capacity to execute assigned missions effectively since its establishment, including in diverse and demanding operational environments.
He said the Command has demonstrated through its performance that it is a force capable of effectively responding to missions entrusted to it and serving the country and its people.
The commander said the training center has significantly expanded its capacity to produce commando personnel equipped to contribute to the protection of Ethiopia’s sovereignty, peace and security.
He said members of the 45th cohort completed demanding theoretical and practical instruction in military science and the art of warfare, strengthening their capacity to sustain the Ethiopian National Defense Force’s operational readiness.
Lieutenant General Shuma said the graduates are now better prepared to undertake complex assignments and remain committed to protecting the peace and security of Ethiopia and its people.
The graduation ceremony was attended by Chief of Staff of the Ethiopian National Defense Force Field Marshal Berhanu Jula, Deputy Chief of Staff General Abebaw Tadesse and senior military officers.
Commander of the Blate Special Operations Command Training Center Brigadier General Boja Aga said the 45th cohort had developed enhanced capabilities to operate across diverse combat environments following rigorous training.
He said the trainees underwent intensive instruction grounded in strong military discipline and contemporary training approaches, equipping them with the capabilities required to undertake complex operational assignments.
The graduates said the training had strengthened their capacity to operate effectively across different combat environments and accomplish assigned missions.
Brigadier General Boja said the training center would continue expanding its efforts to develop capable military personnel through modernized training and rigorous standards.
He added that the graduates had completed the program with enhanced operational capabilities, military discipline and physical fitness suited to demanding military duties.
