PM Abiy Ahmed Says Bishoftu International Airport Is Under Rapid Construction

Addis Ababa, June 15, 2026 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has said that the Bishoftu International Airport mega project is under rapid construction, describing it as the largest aviation infrastructure project in Africa’s history.

This comes after he visited the construction progress of the project this morning.

In a social media post, the Prime Minister said the project is being built “day and night with unyielding determination.”

He added that, upon completion, the airport will have the capacity to accommodate up to 110 million passengers annually, positioning Ethiopia among the world’s leading aviation hubs.
