PM Abiy inaugurates four industrial and solar energy projects in Hawassa City

Addis Ababa, April 25, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has inaugurated four major industrial and energy projects in Hawassa Industrial Park, marking another step in Ethiopia’s expansion of renewable energy and industrial capacity.

The inaugurated facilities include Toyo Phase 2, Origin, and Lumintech solar factories, alongside the HZ Gas plant, all located within Hawassa Industrial Park.

The combined solar factories are expected to generate 11.3 gigawatts of clean energy annually, strengthening the country’s renewable energy output, the Prime Minister said in a social media post after inaugurating the projects.

The HZ Gas plant will produce 900 tons of oxygen, 40,000 tons of nitrogen, and 7 tons of hydrogen each year, contributing to Ethiopia’s growing industrial gas supply chain.

The four projects are also reported to have created numerous job opportunities, supporting local employment and livelihood expansion in the surrounding area.

Prime Minister Abiy noted that while the production capacity of the new facilities is significant, Ethiopia’s overall potential for industrial and energy development remains even greater.
