Addis Ababa, August 6, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has announced the inauguration of the new terminal at Bahir Dar Dejazmach Belay Zeleke International Airport, describing the project as a significant milestone for one of the country’s key aviation gateways.

In a social media post, the Prime Minister said the new terminal represents more than a modern airport facility, calling it “a testament to resilience, recovery, and continued investment in the future” following recent challenges experienced by Bahir Dar.

He said the upgraded terminal will improve airport capacity and passenger experience through expanded aircraft facilities, enhanced infrastructure, improved access roads, and modern amenities designed to meet the region’s growing needs.

“Together with the urban transformation shaping the city, the new terminal positions Bahir Dar as another key hub for both international and domestic flights,” the Prime Minister said.

Prime Minister Abiy also expressed hope that the local community will continue safeguarding peace to benefit from the economic opportunities created by a growing and vibrant city.

The inauguration of the new terminal comes as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Ethiopia’s transport infrastructure and expand connectivity.
