Addis Ababa, November 5, 2026 (FMC) – The Second African Political Parties Summit, bringing together heads of state, senior parliamentarians, ministers and political party representatives from across Africa, opens today in Addis Ababa.
The three-day continental gathering, running from November 5 to 7 at the Adwa Victory Memorial Museum, is being held under the theme “Managing Growth: Political Parties as Architects of Africa’s Economic Future.”
Today’s programme features the African Women in Political Leadership Summit and the African Youth and Politics Forum, focusing on women’s political leadership, youth participation and their contributions to the continent’s development.
The main summit programme, scheduled for tomorrow, will address the role of political parties in economic transformation, productive economies, youth employment, private-sector partnerships, climate resilience, green development and industrialization.
More than 20 heads of state, around 80 senior parliamentarians and ministers, and close to 1,000 participants from across Africa are expected to attend the gathering.
The summit will also provide a platform to present Ethiopia’s development experiences, including macroeconomic reforms and progress in agriculture, industry, tourism and the digital economy, alongside major infrastructure initiatives such as the urban corridor development projects and the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
The gathering is expected to conclude with the adoption of the Addis Ababa Declaration, outlining shared commitments on the role of political parties in advancing Africa’s economic development and prosperity.
