11th BRICS Parliamentary Forum Underway in Brasília

Addis Ababa, June 4, 2025 (FMC) – The 11th BRICS Parliamentary Forum officially opened today in Brasília, the capital of Brazil, marking a significant milestone in strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation among BRICS member states.

Held from June 4–5, the forum reaffirms the commitment of BRICS legislatures to enhancing political dialogue, exchanging best practices, and building a shared agenda focused on sustainable development, social justice, and multilateral governance.

As part of the forum’s broader programme, two high-level meetings took place on June 3:

  • The 2nd Meeting of the Chairs of the Committees on International Affairs of the BRICS Parliaments, which aimed to deepen political and diplomatic alignment among member legislatures and promote discussion on key global issues and BRICS’ evolving role in international geopolitics.
  • The 2nd Forum of BRICS Women Parliamentarians, which sought to elevate the role of women in politics and public policy formulation, while reinforcing gender perspectives within the bloc’s deliberations.

Since its inception, BRICS has focused on promoting cooperation in key sectors including the economy, science, technology, innovation, and sustainable development. The growing parliamentary dimension of the group adds democratic legitimacy to its actions and enhances its role in shaping a fairer, more balanced, and multipolar global order.

In this context, BRICS continues to emerge as a vital platform for advocating multilateralism, sustainable development, and equitable global governance. The current forum presents a timely opportunity for inter-parliamentary dialogue and for advancing collaborative solutions to pressing global challenges facing BRICS nations.
