GCS: Ethiopia’s Development Gains Demonstrate Its Advancing Vision of African Prosperity

Addis Ababa, January 12, 2026 (FMC) – Minister of Government Communication Services, Ms. Enatalem Melese, affirmed that Ethiopia is steadily advancing toward its vision of becoming Africa’s model of prosperity by 2030, stressing that the concrete national achievements registered so far clearly demonstrate that the country is moving firmly in the right direction.

Briefing the media, Ms. Enatalem stated that the nationwide undertakings aimed at ensuring quality economic growth and inclusive development, coupled with the implementation of a comprehensive multi-sector development strategy designed to deliver sustainable and broad-based economic progress, have yielded encouraging and tangible results.

She underscored that major national initiatives — including the multi-billion-dollar Bishoftu International Airport project, which commenced construction on January 10 near Bishoftu town, the completion of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), along with several other transformative national projects — stand as compelling evidence that Ethiopia’s renewal era is advancing on a strong and promising path.

According to the Minister, Ethiopia’s economic performance has positioned the country among the fastest-growing economies on the continent, driven by deliberate efforts to build a resilient, diversified and multisectoral economy.

She highlighted that since the launch of the Homegrown Economic Reform Program, the government has systematically addressed structural bottlenecks, resulting in increased production and supply capacity, improved government revenues, strengthened foreign exchange reserves, and enhanced export performance.

Ms. Enatalem explained that through sustained measures to curb inflation, modernize and strengthen agriculture, establish an enabling environment for innovation and rapid industrial growth, identify and effectively utilize the nation’s mineral resources for development, and advance tourism based on the principles of “creation, acceleration, replication, and ensuring quality,” Ethiopia is building a development path that secures continuity and prosperity for both present and future generations.

She further noted that significant progress has also been registered in digital economy initiatives and urban development programs, reflecting Ethiopia’s growing capability, renewed national hope, and development potential.

The statement also highlighted two major national milestones scheduled for this year: the national dialogue process aimed at fostering strong national consensus, and the 7th national general elections, set to take place on June 1, 2026.

It stressed that the Medemer State remains committed to ensuring an inclusive and effective national consultation process, while also guaranteeing that the upcoming elections will be conducted in a peaceful, fair, independent, and credible manner.

Concluding the briefing, Ms. Enatalem emphasized that the achievements registered to date demonstrate the Medemer State’s unwavering commitment to inclusive development driven by public participation, its decisive leadership across all sectors to accelerate rapid national progress, and its continued efforts to elevate Ethiopia’s strategic diplomatic standing both across Africa and globally.
