Stalled infrastructure projects across Ethiopia being revived, Megech Dam leads the way – DPM Temesgen
Addis Ababa, March 24, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia’s government is reviving previously stalled infrastructure projects, Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Truneh said in a social media post today, highlighting the Megech Drinking Water Dam in Gonder area of Amhara region as a leading example of renewed progress.
In his post after the visit to the project, Mr. Temesgen noted that many projects that had long been left unfinished—despite consuming national resources—are now being brought back to life, reflecting a shift toward determination, accountability, and forward motion.
He emphasized that reviving these initiatives has become a defining commitment of the government.
“Projects begun in years past—projects that carried the dreams and aspirations of our people, yet were left incomplete—are now moving forward once again,” Mr. Temesgen wrote, noting that these efforts are gaining new energy, focus, and urgency.
The Deputy Prime Minister pointed specifically to the Megech Drinking Water Dam, which addresses a pressing need for reliable water access in Gonder. He described the ongoing construction as “the steady fulfillment of a promise,” aimed at ensuring residents no longer have to ask when water will come, but can rely on it daily.
Mr. Temesgen added that the sense of momentum surrounding the project reflects a shared belief in progress and possibility, extending beyond political affiliation to all who support Ethiopia’s vision of prosperity and unity.
He concluded that the government remains committed to accelerating these efforts, ensuring that revitalized projects deliver lasting solutions and tangible benefits for the Ethiopian people.
