Addis Ababa, November 5, 2026 (FMC) – The Ethiopian Navy is in a position to effectively carry out its assigned missions across maritime, air and land domains, Navy commanders and members have said.
Units deployed around the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) are also conducting coordinated operations to counter any potential unlawful activities in the surrounding region, according to the report.
Ethiopian Navy Media Head Commander Kasahun Kidane said Ethiopia had been deprived not only of its maritime access but also of its naval force for an extended period.
However, following the reform of the Ethiopian National Defense Force, the Navy has been reorganized and developed into a force capable of carrying out comprehensive missions across maritime, air and land domains, he said.
He further stated that commanders and personnel across all naval operational zones were well prepared to undertake maritime search and rescue missions in accordance with international law.
According to information from the Ministry of Defense’s online media, the Navy is also undertaking physical and psychological preparations to ensure its personnel can effectively discharge their assigned responsibilities.
The Navy’s integrated maritime, air and land training is also designed to prepare personnel for maritime search and rescue operations in anticipation of Ethiopia’s future return to the sea, according to the commanders.
