AU Commission Chairperson Reaffirms Solidarity with Mali, Calls for United Action Against Terrorism
Addis Ababa, July 13, 2026 (FMC) — Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission Mahmoud Ali Youssouf has reaffirmed the Commission’s solidarity with Mali and called for sustained collective action against terrorism during talks with Malian President Assimi Goïta in Bamako.
Youssouf was received by President Goïta at the Palais de Koulouba in Bamako, where the Malian leader welcomed the visit, describing it as a strong demonstration of the African Union’s solidarity with the government and people of Mali, according to the AU Commission.
The AUC Chairperson expressed appreciation for the hospitality extended to him and paid tribute to Mali’s rich civilization, history and cultural heritage. He also commended the resilience of the Malian people in the face of the challenges confronting the country.
Youssouf acknowledged the efforts of President Goïta and the Malian authorities to strengthen stability and address the threat of terrorism, stressing that terrorism knows no borders and underscoring the importance of sustained collective action to confront the shared challenge.
He further reaffirmed the AU Commission’s commitment to supporting Mali in addressing its humanitarian and development challenges, including through the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) and the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD). He reiterated that the Commission stands ready to support Mali’s continued efforts to consolidate stability, strengthen national cohesion, return to constitutional order and advance its priorities for sustainable peace and development.
Youssouf also commended President Goïta’s commitment to fostering good neighbourliness and regional cooperation.
President Goïta reaffirmed Mali’s readiness to maintain close engagement with the African Union and continue working with the Union on matters of shared interest, according to the AU Commission.
