Defense Force Members Reaffirm Commitment to Safeguarding Ethiopia’s Legacy

Addis Ababa, September 8, 2026 (FMC) — Members of the Ethiopian National Defense Force’s Eastern Command have reaffirmed their commitment to protecting and strengthening the country inherited through generations and ensuring its continuity for future generations, as Ethiopia observes the Day of Resilience.

Lieutenant Colonel Feyisa Bedada, a member of the Eastern Command, said Ethiopia’s previous generations had preserved the country’s territorial integrity and the unity of its people through sacrifices made in the face of external invasion and internal threats.

He described that legacy of steadfastness as a symbol of resilience, saying the Defense Force continues to fulfill its responsibility to safeguard Ethiopia’s borders with determination.

The Eastern Command members said the present generation has a responsibility to protect and strengthen the country handed down through the course of history and pass it on to future generations despite internal challenges.

They said the national observance of the Day of Resilience has particular significance for the Defense Force, given its responsibility for safeguarding the country.

Pagume 3 is being observed nationwide as the Day of Resilience, recognizing the contribution of Ethiopia’s security and defense institutions to protecting the country and sustaining its security.
