Ethiopia is building its future boldly and decisively, says DPM Temesgen

Addis Ababa, April 17, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Truneh stated that his country is building its future boldly and decisively through sustained infrastructure expansion and modernization efforts.

The Deputy Prime Minister made the remarks while officially launching the inaugural Ethiopia Infrastructure and Construction Week during a ceremony held in Addis Ababa today.

The opening event brought together stakeholders to showcase national progress in infrastructure development and reinforce Ethiopia’s long-term transformation agenda.

In his message, Deputy PM Temesgen said infrastructure remains central to national development, describing it as the backbone of the economy, the lifeblood of growth, and the foundation for sustainable prosperity.

He noted that the exhibition reflects a growing institutional culture defined by collaboration, urgency, and excellence in delivering development priorities.

Mr. Temesgen highlighted key achievements in recent years, including the expansion of road networks, the increase of renewable energy generation capacity to nearly 10,000 megawatts, and the expansion of digital connectivity, with mobile subscribers reaching 97 million and internet users rising to 57 million nationwide.

The Deputy PM also pointed to ongoing corridor development projects in Addis Ababa and other cities, describing them as visible evidence of national transformation driven by collective effort.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to accelerating inclusive and equitable development through continued investment in roads, energy, irrigation, railways, and digital infrastructure.

Addressing criticism of progress, he said the Ethiopian people remain the ultimate judges of development outcomes, stressing that national focus remains on delivering tangible results.

He added that Ethiopia is entering “an era of work, results, and hope,” reaffirming continued efforts to build the country “brick by brick, vision by vision.”
