Ethiopia Shapes Its Own Future Through Knowledge, Talent, and Vision: Deputy PM

Addis Ababa, July 25, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Truneh stated that his country does not wait for others to determine its future, but rather shapes it through its own knowledge, talent, and vision.

The Deputy Prime Minister made the remark today at the Science Museum, where the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute proudly celebrated the graduation of the first cohort of AI startup trainees.

Highlighting the significance of the event, he noted that this milestone is a direct result of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s steadfast commitment to advancing the AI sector and his continued leadership in driving Ethiopia’s digital transformation.

He added that the achievement is a powerful demonstration of what the country’s young innovators can accomplish when provided with the right opportunities and support.

The graduates’ startups span strategic sectors including health, education, transport, smart cities, and finance.

During the program, the trainees received advanced technical training, entrepreneurial and problem-solving skills, world-class AI workshops, and access to cloud data centers and high-performance computing resources.

Emphasizing the broader economic impact, it was noted that supporting a single startup not only accelerates technological innovation but also creates high-quality jobs and contributes to sustainable economic growth.

Reaffirming that the government remains fully committed to fostering this ecosystem, it was highlighted that today’s graduates are living proof of what is possible.
