Ethiopian Missions Worldwide Extend Green Legacy Initiative Beyond Borders

Addis Ababa, August 3, 2026 (FMC) — #Ethiopian diplomatic missions across the world have joined the country’s Green Legacy Initiative, conducting tree-planting activities and engaging Ethiopian communities abroad, local partners and friends of Ethiopia in support of the national environmental campaign.

Under the theme “Let’s Plant Hope,” Ethiopian embassies and missions across Africa, Asia, Europe, North America and South America carried out seedling plantation programs at their compounds and other designated locations, demonstrating the growing international reach of Ethiopia’s environmental restoration efforts.

The activities were conducted by Ethiopian missions in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Russia, China, Türkiye, Pakistan, India, the United States, Uganda, Belgium, Djibouti, Algeria, Kenya, Brazil and the Republic of Korea.

The activities brought together diplomats, embassy staff, Ethiopian diaspora members, government representatives, community leaders, religious leaders, students and other stakeholders, reflecting collective commitment to climate action and sustainable development.

The missions emphasized that the Green Legacy Initiative has become an important platform for restoring ecosystems, combating climate change, addressing land degradation and promoting a culture of environmental protection. They also highlighted Ethiopia’s efforts to share experiences and strengthen global cooperation in building a greener and more climate-resilient future.

Ethiopian diplomatic missions noted that the initiative aligns with broader international environmental efforts, including climate resilience, green economy development and preparations for Ethiopia’s hosting of the 32nd UN Climate Change Conference (COP32).

The overseas activities were organized in solidarity with Ethiopia’s nationwide one-day Green Legacy campaign, which targeted the planting of 800 million seedlings under the theme “Let’s Plant Hope.”
