Harar’s Timeless Heritage Draws Global Attention as Tourism and Culture Spotlight Grows
Addis Ababa, May 26, 2026 (FMC) — The historic city of Harar in eastern Ethiopia is gaining increasing attention from international tourists, content creators, and social media influencers, reflecting its growing profile as a destination that blends culture, history, and natural experiences.
Among recent visitors is British digital content creator and social media influencer Dylan Page, widely known online as “News Daddy,” who visited the city this week.
During his stay, the influencer participated in Harar’s well-known nightly hyena feeding tradition—an age-old cultural practice in which local “Hyena Men” call wild spotted hyenas and feed them pieces of raw meat.
The experience highlights one of Harar’s most distinctive cultural attractions, which continues to draw global interest for its rare interaction between humans and wildlife, as well as the city’s longstanding traditions of hospitality and community-based heritage tourism, according to the Ministry of Tourism.
Harar’s unique blend of living culture, historical significance, and nature-based experiences is increasingly positioning it as one of Ethiopia’s notable tourism destinations.
