UNECA Africa Development Impact Forum Opens in Addis Ababa, Focuses on Bridging Policy and Implementation Gap

Addis Ababa, June 11, 2026 (FMC) – The Africa Development Impact Forum (ADIF) organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) opened this morning in Addis Ababa, bringing together policymakers, development partners, private sector actors, researchers, and youth representatives from across the continent.

The two-day forum, being held at the United Nations Conference Centre, is convened under the theme “Best Practices and Innovation for Job Creation in Africa.”

The gathering aims to address Africa’s long-standing challenge of translating policy frameworks and development strategies into concrete and scalable outcomes, with a particular focus on employment creation and inclusive growth.

UNECA officials noted at the opening session that while Africa continues to generate ambitious development agendas, implementation gaps remain a major constraint to achieving sustained impact. The forum is expected to serve as a practical platform to move beyond discussion toward actionable solutions.

Participants are engaging in high-level dialogues, technical sessions, and collaborative workshops designed to identify scalable models, strengthen policy implementation mechanisms, and promote innovation-driven development approaches.

Key areas of focus include leveraging artificial intelligence, advancing green growth opportunities, and expanding youth entrepreneurship as a driver of job creation across the continent.

UNECA emphasized that the forum is structured as an ongoing process rather than a standalone event, with outcomes expected to feed into follow-up mechanisms aimed at tracking progress and ensuring real-world impact.

The opening of the forum marks the beginning of two days of deliberations expected to shape recommendations for strengthening Africa’s implementation capacity in development policy.
