Ethiopia Surpasses $5.1 Billion in Export Revenue in First Half of Fiscal Year
Addis Ababa, January 22, 2026 (FMC) – Ethiopia has earned over 5.1 billion US dollars in export revenue during the first six months of the fiscal year, exceeding its target by a significant margin, the Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration announced.
Addressing a six-month performance review in Dessie, Amhara region, Minister of Trade and Regional Integration Kasahun Gofe said the country had initially aimed to generate 4.42 billion USD in export earnings during the period. Actual revenues, however, surpassed expectations, reaching 120 percent of the target, and representing a 1.83 billion USD increase compared to the same period last year.

Minister Kasahun described the results as a strong foundation for Ethiopia’s economic revitalization and institutional development. He highlighted ongoing efforts to implement the Digital Ethiopia 2030 Strategy within the trade sector, which has delivered more than two million trade registration and licensing services online nationwide, enhancing efficiency and accessibility for businesses.
The minister further emphasized that the government is pursuing a focused and coordinated approach to meet its overall export revenue goal of 9.4 billion USD by the end of the fiscal year, reflecting Ethiopia’s commitment to strengthening trade performance and supporting sustainable economic growth.
