Addis Ababa, June 18, 2026 (FMC) — The Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission (NDC) has completed preparations to host 4,000 representatives for a historic national conference scheduled to begin on July 15, 2026, in Addis Ababa.
Chief Commissioner Prof. Mesfin Araya said in an interview with Fana Podcast that the national consultation process, launched to foster lasting peace and national consensus, has now reached a critical stage following the resolution of multiple challenges along the way.
He noted that extensive efforts have been made to ensure broad-based inclusiveness in the process, bringing together former armed combatants, internally displaced persons, and Ethiopians living abroad.
According to Prof. Mesfin, the agenda-setting process remains open, as the consultation is interest-driven and will continue until the commencement of the main conference.
He further stated that 4,000 participants drawn from across Ethiopia and the diaspora will convene in Addis Ababa for the landmark gathering, for which extensive logistical and organizational preparations have been undertaken.
The Chief Commissioner expressed confidence that the conference will provide a meaningful platform for representatives to present concerns and deliberate on possible solutions in a respectful and constructive environment.
He added that the Commission will closely follow up on the implementation of recommendations expected from the conference outcomes, emphasizing that this will help institutionalize a stronger culture of dialogue and consultation in the country.
Prof. Mesfin underscored that dialogue remains the only pathway through which all parties can emerge as winners.
