Addis Ababa, July 4, 2026 (FMC) – Ethiopian Air Force Commander, Lieutenant General Yilma Merdasa, has said that the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) is a modern, technology-driven institution designed to safeguard the country’s national interests.
He made the remarks while addressing a training session organized by the Defense Media and Communication Center for media leaders and communication experts drawn from various branches and departments of the defense forces.
Lt. Gen. Yilma noted that the ENDF remains a disciplined and professional force that continues to discharge its responsibilities with commitment and resilience in defending Ethiopia’s sovereignty and national interests.
He stressed that modern warfare is evolving rapidly, increasingly driven by advancements in technology and research, adding that the defense forces are continuously strengthening their capabilities in line with these developments while remaining responsive to Ethiopia’s specific security environment.
Participants in the discussion, including defense media experts, highlighted Ethiopia’s broad national potential, rich history, and diverse and cohesive society as key foundations for unity, stability, and sustainable development.
They underlined the importance of military media professionals in effectively communicating the institution’s history, sacrifices, and achievements to the public.
The discussion also emphasized the need to counter misinformation and misleading narratives through timely, accurate, and proactive communication of verified institutional and national achievements.
It was noted that the defense force is structured to preserve peace through deterrence, while maintaining a high level of readiness to ensure decisive response capabilities should conflict arise.
Lt. Gen. Yilma further stressed the importance of strengthening morale and psychological resilience within the armed forces through effective, context-sensitive communication.
