Lake Tana is an Inexhaustible Source of Dev’t and a Timeless Beacon of Beauty — Deputy PM
Addis Ababa, May 3, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh has said that Lake Tana is an inexhaustible source of development and a timeless beacon of beauty, as he inaugurated the Felege Gihon Eco Resort in Bahir Dar city.

The Deputy Prime Minister made the remarks during the official opening of the resort, located on the southern shores of Lake Tana in Bahir Dar city.
The Felege Gihon Eco Resort is developed under the government’s “Dine for Generations” initiative through private investment and is presented as a new landmark for tourism, development, and urban attractiveness in Bahir Dar and northern Ethiopia.
Temesgen stated that the resort reflects the integration of natural beauty and human effort, describing it as a model project that enhances both tourism potential and local development.
The facility includes modern and elegant guest houses, entertainment venues, shops, an amphitheater, and similar supporting infrastructure designed in harmony with the Lake Tana environment.
It also features a modern port capable of accommodating up to 12 boats, as well as five modern boats, each with a capacity of 30 passengers, further strengthening water-based tourism activities on Lake Tana.
The resort was constructed by Mr. Kassahun Misganaw, Founder of BEICA Trade and Investment, with the project costing 4.5 billion birr and completed over a construction period of two years and six months.
According to information provided, Roda Hospitality Group will manage the new resort together with Gorgora Eco Resort, overseeing hospitality services aimed at revitalizing tourism around Lake Tana in coordination with Gorgora Birhan (Gorgora Eco Resort), located on the opposite side of the lake under the government’s “Dine for Nation” initiative.
The Deputy Prime Minister said the project will strengthen the regional tourism corridor and generate new economic opportunities for the surrounding area.
He also called on investors who have been allocated land in Bahir Dar to accelerate the implementation of their projects, emphasizing their role in supporting the city’s development trajectory.
Mr. Temesgen further noted that Bahir Dar is steadily emerging as a city where history, nature, and development converge in a coordinated and balanced manner.
