PM Abiy Says Ethiopia Ready to Host Russia–Africa Summit When It Next Comes to Africa
Addis Ababa, October 29, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has expressed Ethiopia’s readiness to host a future Russia–Africa Summit in Addis Ababa when the gathering next comes to Africa, highlighting the Ethiopian capital’s role as the seat of the African Union.
Addressing the plenary session of the Third Russia–Africa Summit in Moscow on Thursday, the Prime Minister said Ethiopia would be honored to welcome the gathering, which brings together African and Russian leaders to discuss cooperation and shared priorities.
“And when this summit comes to Africa, Addis Ababa, home of the African Union, will be honored to host it,” Abiy said.
The statement signalled Ethiopia’s willingness to contribute to the continued development of the Russia–Africa partnership by offering to host a future edition of the summit on African soil.
Addis Ababa’s position as the headquarters of the African Union gives the city continental diplomatic significance, making it a natural setting for high-level discussions involving African countries and international partners.
The Prime Minister’s offer came as he called for the current summit’s action plan to establish clear tasks and timelines, stressing the importance of translating diplomatic commitments into practical outcomes.
Abiy also reaffirmed Ethiopia’s support for negotiated solutions, African-led mediation and the consistent application of the United Nations Charter to all nations.
His remarks placed Ethiopia’s hosting offer within a broader message of partnership, emphasizing cooperation grounded in mutual respect, shared responsibility and tangible results.
The statement expresses Ethiopia’s willingness to host when the summit next comes to Africa; it does not indicate that a future venue has already been formally selected.
