Ethiopia’s Electoral Board Hosts National Event for 7th General Election Results Announcement
Addis Ababa, June 21, 2026 (FMC) — The National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) is hosting a national event in Addis Ababa marking the results announcement process of the country’s 7th General Election, as the electoral body moves into the final phase of post-election activities.
NEBE Chairperson Melatwork Hailu said the 7th General Election was conducted with inclusivity as a core guiding principle, ensuring broad participation across different segments of society during the electoral process held on June 1, 2026.
She noted that for the first time in Ethiopia’s electoral history, a digital voter and candidate registration system was implemented, describing it as a major step in modernizing and strengthening the country’s electoral administration.
According to the Chairperson, the Board also introduced a series of legal and procedural reforms aimed at improving the electoral complaint resolution mechanism, reinforcing the legal framework governing the use of electoral technologies, and expanding participation opportunities for women and persons with disabilities.
She further stated that NEBE placed strong emphasis on inclusivity throughout the election process, including measures designed to strengthen safe participation environments and ensure broader access to the electoral process for vulnerable groups.
Melatwork expressed appreciation to all stakeholders involved in the electoral process, noting that the election was conducted under complex operational conditions that required sustained coordination among institutions.
The national event currently underway in Addis Ababa is being attended by FDRE President Taye Atske-Selassie, alongside senior government officials, international representatives, diplomatic missions, and stakeholders engaged in the electoral process, as Ethiopia approaches the formal announcement of the 7th General Election results.
The event is expected to proceed with the official results announcement in due course.
